A 30-Day (Personal Development) Challenge, Day 1: Starting on a Brand New Self Help Book

Hey there gals and guys, how are you? Clark here, and welcome back to my 30-day personal development challenge/case study. Before starting Day 1, you may take a look at my Day 0 activities and findings (if any). I’ve set myself a challenge, in the next 30 days, to raise and maintain my vibration at a level higher than it has been before, and today I am going to start reading a brand new self help book!

If you read my Day 0 post, you’ll know that I have decided to read Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth: Awakening to your Life’s purpose. The main purpose of the book is to “bring about a shift in consciousness”. Perfect. Just what I was looking for. I’m not sure how far I could go with it today, with me having some errands to run, but I’m all in favor of savoring it a little at a time. I’ll read about a chapter each day.

Reminded of The Power of Now portals

Coming across this book reminded me of the portals mentioned in The Power of Now. These portals are the various ways through which one could achieve connection with Being. Hence, for the rest of today, I am going to be present. I’ve discovered that I’m always falling into the trap of thinking I will be present, planning to do it, resolving to do it, but rarely doing it! Thinking about it actually brings me out of the present moment, so I’m going to stop thinking and just be there in the now.

I’ve been trying to go into my inner body when I’m relaxing in front of the TV, for instance I tried that when I was watching a Formula 1 race last weekend. But I don’t feel like I’ve gotten anywhere with that. I shall try again soon.

Any Findings from Chapter 1?

There are a lot of long paragraphs, which I’m beginning to think is a trademark of Tolle’s books. But reading Tolle always brings a sense of peace, so I’m willing to overlook that!

Like I mentioned above, the main purpose of the book is to “bring about a shift in consciousness”. That was in Chapter 1. A shift in consciousness, which I understand to mean the realization that we are not just our body and mind, we are also extensions of Source, is in line with my ultimate goal of raising my vibration in these 30 days. A telltale sign of a rise in vibration is feeling better, inspired, mind-blown, excited. And I believe a shift in consciousness comes with such a wonderful experience as well.

There’s going to be lots of talk about the ego, who is the unconscious you (or me), in this book. The reasons given are two-fold. First, only by knowing the ego’s ways and behavior will we be able to recognize it. And second, recognition of the ego is one of the ways in which a shift in consciousness happens.

Stay Tuned, Gals and Guys!

I plan to meditate every morning once I wake up. I was doing a spot of visualization this morning, but it is said that if we just meditate regularly that is sufficient to have all that we want come to us. Tell you all about it in the next part. That is it for today, thanks for going through this journey with me and I hope you are enjoying it thus far. If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to leave them in the comment box below. Thanks a lot!
