Transcendental Meditation Instructions

 

Hey there, Clark here from Self Help Books. Today, let’s talk about one of the most known types of meditation – transcendental. Let me first give you an introduction, then allow me to share with you transcendental meditation instructions.

What is Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental meditation is “a technique for detaching oneself from anxiety and promoting harmony and self-realization by meditation, repetition of a mantra, and other yogic practices, promulgated by an international organization founded by the Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.”

Research verifies that transcendental meditation brings forth benefits such as, among others, better cardiovascular health and increased creativity.

It is said that when we have a thought, we are conditioned to have either one of two reactions, or a combination of the two:

1) The thought triggers some kind of emotion. For example, you think of your upcoming date, and experience anticipation.

2) The thought triggers an action or planned action. For instance, you think that you’re hungry, and thus you get something to eat or make a plan to get something to eat. ‘Action’ can also mean internal physiological responses, such as elevated blood pressure, sweating, increased heart rate and so on.

Transcendental meditation conditions your mind to have a new response to thought.

HOW to Do It

Transcendental meditation is relatively simple to do:

1) Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor and your spine straight. Close your eyes and relax your entire body. Take a deep breath in, and breathe out.

2) Repeat a mantra in Sanskrit in your mind without moving your lips or making a sound (mantras are more powerful when they are thought rather than chanted) for around 20 minutes, two times a day.

And that’s it. The crucial thing to remember is not to force anything. Allow thoughts to come and go, and if you realize that you’ve stopped repeating the mantra in your head – just gently come back to it.

This takes time and repetition, but after a while you’ll find that you’ve reconditioned your previous programmed response.

If done correctly, when a thought that spikes blood pressure comes along, your reconditioned, non-reactive response would follow, therefore averting the emotion or action that would normally take place.

In the case of creativity, thoughts such as “Would people like this?” would not interrupt the creative process when you’re trying to write, paint or play music.

It is said that it is important to receive the mantra from a fully-trained transcendental meditation teacher, because they have been given a selection of mantras which have been passed down through a long line of teachers over thousands of years. Falling asleep during Hypnosis – Is Hypnosis while asleep beneficial?

Hey everyone, Clark here from Self Help Books. Just a short discussion today – let’s look at the phenomena of falling asleep during hypnosis, and whether you can still benefit from hypnosis while asleep.

You May Not Be Asleep

hypnosis-while-asleepOne of the common comments from people who listen to hypnosis audios – they seem to fall asleep while doing so. They drift into a deep state of relaxation and lose track of time. Suddenly, they wake up as the session is ending. So, will they still benefit from the session?

If you fall asleep during hypnosis, remember that several research groups have discovered that our hearing is on 24/7, and constantly taking in information. It stays alert to protect us and our offspring. For instance, if a mother is asleep and hears her baby cry, she will awaken immediately. So even if you fall asleep during the hypnosis session, your brain is still recording all of the information in your subconscious mind.

However, you may not actually be asleep.

Using sensitive medical equipment such as an EEG machine, scientists have identified four ranges of brainwave activity (measured in pulses per second/hertz) covering wakeful alertness to deep sleep.

1) Beta (12-40 hertz) – You are conscious, active, and focused on your surroundings.

2) Alpha (8-12 Hertz) – You are present, quiet and meditative. You are in a state of mental and physical relaxation while still being somewhat aware of your surroundings. You are alert but calm. This is a light state of trance. This state is ideal for learning new information and creative problem solving.

3) Theta (4-8 hertz) – You feel deeply relaxed to the point of drowsiness. This is a deep state of trance. In this phase, you have easy access to your creative imagination and vivid mental imagery.

4) Delta (0.5-4 hertz) – You are experiencing deep, dreamless sleep. You are unconscious with very slow brainwave activity. The brain puts things on hold while it focuses on healing, rest, and recuperation.

Learning and personal development are best achieved at either the Alpha or Theta levels of brainwave activity.

If you ‘wake up’ at the same time the hypnosis audio is ending, then you did not fall asleep during the session. You simply experienced a deep trance state, and parts of the session are not accessible to your conscious memory. This occurs at the Theta levels of brainwave activity, and is actually pretty common with really good hypnotic subjects.

If you wake up an hour or two later, way after the completion of the audio, then you actually fell asleep, and did not respond to those ‘wake up’ suggestions at the end of the audio.

Move through every moment of every day, and go to sleep every night, being grateful for exactly what’s happening in your life right now – no matter what it is. Do this and you’ll be stunned by the difference it makes in the way you see the world, and how the world responds to you.

Set an alarm to go off at the same time each day. When it does, spend five minutes thinking of things you’re grateful for, of which there is an endless supply.

As you get more comfortable with the process and it becomes easier for you to tap into gratitude and get the flow going, you might increase the length of time you spend in this state, or the number of times you do it each day.

The remarkable thing about gratitude is that it is the ultimate antidote to negativity. Practice gratitude regularly, and you’ll soon find that there simply isn’t room in your mind for any other kind of thinking. Gratitude changes responses like anger, frustration and resentment into positive, grateful, life-affirming thoughts. That, in turn, will make you much more attuned to the positive, life-affirming people and opportunities that are available all around you at all times.

Someone I know practiced visualization in the days before a very important public presentation. It was on a topic in which she does not have much experience. Furthermore, she has never presented to such a large audience before. Needless to say she did not have the confidence for the task. Finally the anxious day came and she did the presentation. Well, guess what? She wasn’t very nervous and the delivery went smoothly – a few people even came up to her after the presentation to say she did terrific. Now what makes that possible?

I do not know WHY it works. Perhaps visualizing your goal inspires you to consistently take actions that lead you towards that goal. Perhaps it’s just the way the universe works – you know, like gravity. All I know is that it does work.

Visualization will not feel like a huge effort or hard work because (if you do it right) you will feel real joy and all the other great feelings that come when you achieve your dreams. In other words, you’ll enjoy the process so much that it hardly feels like an effort to you. And once you master the art of visualization, and visualizing effectively becomes second nature to you, manifesting your dreams into reality would be incredibly easy and lightning quick!!

Before you can start visualizing, you need to know what it is that you really want. If you’re not very sure what your dreams are, sit down immediately – don’t put it off, don’t look for something else to do – and really think about what kind of life would give you the most joy.  

Write down your goals. I can’t explain why writing them down works so well, but it does. So my advice is to go with what works🙂. Don’t swim against the current.

Write it in the format above – I am so happy and grateful now that *what is your desire*. For instance, “I am so happy and grateful now that I am financially able to quit my job, have a hundred thousand dollars in the bank, and have found a fun way to earn a passive income of $….. per month. Be specific with what you want. “I am so happy and grateful now that I am rich and successful” is probably too general. Look at your goals often.

You can also maintain a vision board. Say your dream is to own a triple-storey house. Obtain a photo or picture of the house you want to own, cut it out and paste it on a cardboard or wall. By looking at the pictures frequently you speed up the manifestation process.

 

Prepare a Visualization Script

 

A visualization script is like a script of the movie you are going to produce – in your mind. It simplifies the visualization process considerably.

Below your goal, simply note down a few elaborations to give your imagination a little nudge in the right direction. For example,

“Dad has just recovered from his illness and now we are in Bali – having a buffet breakfast at the Pullman Hotel. I am sitting with Mom and Dad at a round table. We are talking and laughing. I feel so much joy.

Suddenly, I see *a dear friend* with her mom and sister. I smile and raise my hand, pleasantly surprised, and go over to say hi. I am happy and grateful. Life couldn’t be any better.”

Here’s another one:

“We are in the café near my workplace. It is 7.45 in the morning. She is keeping me company before I leave for work. Her adoring eyes are looking at me, and she is caressing my arm.

Every moment is precious for her as I have to leave for work soon. She said that she misses me already. I feel happy and content.”

The Visualization Process

 

Read your dream that you have written down, look at your vision board and visualization script. We are ready to begin.

Find a quiet place where you wouldn’t be disturbed. Dim or off the lights. You can have some soft music in the background. However, it is advised that you do not visualize lying down on the bed. Not only will you fall asleep, you will not be able to act out the scene lying down on the bed as sitting up.

Close your eyes – and breathe deeply for a few minutes to get your mind and body relaxed. Try to focus on your breathing so that you would clear your mind from all random thoughts. Actually, this is what you call meditation (and here’s a simple meditation technique that you can do). It’s important to be as relaxed as possible – physically and mentally – when you visualize.

Now ease yourself into the vision of your goal. Imagine yourself as already in the possession of your goal.

If your goal is to have a certain amount of money, visualize going to an ATM and check your account balance – and watch as the first number followed by all those zeros shows up on the screen. See yourself living where you want to live, buying things you want to buy, and having a private jet or yacht. Visualize the life you would live if you have that much money.

Look around you and take in your surroundings. Where are you? Who else is there? Wander over and have a chat with them🙂. Act it out. Look for more details to make the picture clearer. What’s the weather like? What are you wearing? Take the time to notice and feel the texture of your clothes, the temperature of the room, and any other details you see when you look around.

Make the pictures in your mind as tangible and real and vivid as you can.

If done correctly your eyes should be closed, your face expressive such as breaking into a smile and your hands move like in real conversation.

You are effectively planting new memories into your subconscious – so if you make this memory even more vivid than a real one you will inevitably see strong results.

The Key to Manifestation

 

To succeed with visualization, you must generate the same feelings and emotions that you would have if you had already accomplished your goals.

You absolutely must induce feelings into your vision – otherwise your goal remains only an imagined one. Your subconscious mind ‘speaks’ in emotions. It doesn’t understand much of anything else. So the more often you create powerful feelings, the more often you are speaking to your subconscious mind. Feeling gives life to your vision and starts the growth of your dream into material form. So whenever you visualize, feel happy, enthusiastic, optimistic, grateful. Think about what it means to have finally won and become all that you ever wanted to be – and the feelings will come to you.

The more details of your vision you see, the easier it will be for you to produce that feeling. Also, the more real the image of your dream in your mind, the easier you will be able to introduce positive feelings into your vision.

By the way, you should visualize in the 1st person perspective – see that you have achieved your dream through your own eyes. Visualizing in the 3rd person would be seeing from outside your body. You are the observer, watching yourself.

You could, of course, experiment with both types of visualization. However, you would find that being in the 1st person to be more real and generates strong, intense emotions. Being the observer may move you away from experiencing your feelings.

Again, the stronger the feelings you generate, the better and faster the manifestation of your dream.

Visualize one goal at a time if you have more than one.

 

How often and how long should you visualize?

 

Each day, set aside at least 30 minutes to an hour to visualize. You’ll need to allow yourself some time to relax and let go. As mentioned above, it’s important to be as relaxed as possible – physically and mentally – when you visualize.

If you have learnt how to visualize effectively, you will begin to see small improvements within a week or so. If you continue to work at it, within a month you will experience some really significant changes in your life.

Donna Eden Daily Energy Routine – Healing by Energy!

The Crossover Shoulder Pull

 

BACKGROUND: Energy crosses over from the left hemisphere of the brain to the right side of the body and from the right hemisphere of the brain to the left side of the body. Such figure-8 crossover patterns can, in fact, be found throughout the body, with the prototype being the double helix of the DNA molecule. While these crossover patterns are natural and spontaneous, with the activities and stresses of daily life, energies sometimes start to flow in a “homolateral” pattern, that is, same side, same side.  

When the energies do not cross over properly, you lose some of your vitality as well as your ability to heal or prevent illness. The simplest technique Donna has for keeping the body’s energies crossing over is called the “crossover shoulder pull”.

INSTRUCTIONS: Place one hand on its opposite shoulder. Dig your fingers into the back of the shoulder, drag it over the top, and pull firmly down and across your body diagonally to your opposite hip – when you get to your chest just smooth your hand over to the opposite hip. Do this about 5 times and then repeat on the other side. Breathe deep as you do it.

The Four Thumps

 

“Energy hot spots” can be found on your skin all over your body. Simply massaging or tapping on these points stimulates, balances, or unblocks specific energy pathways or centers. Here are the four that are part of the Daily Energy Routine.

 

The Grounding Thump

BACKGROUND: Your Stomach meridian begins at the top of your cheekbone and goes straight down your body and into the ground. Stomach meridian is one of the 14 energy pathways, and it is named as such since it flows through the stomach. Stomach meridian is very different from stomach the organ.

If the Stomach meridian is not flowing properly, your energy doesn’t get down to your feet and into the ground. When that happens, you literally feel ungrounded. You also can’t think as clearly or operate as well.

INSTRUCTIONS: To get the Stomach meridian’s energy flowing, simply tap your cheekbones under each eye vigorously with 2 or 3 fingers. Tap firmly, but never so hard as to hurt yourself.

The K27 Thump

BACKGROUND: The 27th and last acupuncture point on the Kidney meridian is called K27. It is a juncture point that ensures that all the body’s 14 major meridians are flowing in the proper direction, a pattern that can, again, become disturbed with our daily activities and stresses. Stimulating the paired (left and right) K27 points reestablishes a better flow throughout the entire meridian system.

You might want to experiment with tapping your K27 points in particular when you:

  • Feel drowsy and lack energy
  • Have trouble concentrating or staying focused
  • Tire easily as you move through your day
  • Forget what you just read

Stimulating the K27 points also bolsters the immune system.

INSTRUCTIONS: To locate your K27 points, place your fingers on your collarbone and move them toward the center until you come to the corners of the collarbone just below the throat. Move your fingers down about an inch. For most people there is an indent there. This is the location of the paired K27 points. To stimulate the right and left K27 points, tap them with some force, but never tap so hard as to risk bruising.

The Thymus/Tarzan Thump

BACKGROUND: Your thymus gland supports your immune system. It makes T-cells and helps your body fight disease. The Thymus Thump enhances immune function, supports your body as it “metabolizes” threats to your health, and helps your body handle stress and shock.

You might want to experiment with the Thymus Thump in particular when you:

  • Want to give your immune system a boost, for whatever reasons
  • Feel tired and want to restore your strength and vitality
  • Want to relieve stress
  • Have just received shocking news

INSTRUCTIONS: To do the Thymus Thump, simply thump on the center of your chest (on your sternum in the area over your thymus) with your fingers or knuckles. Tap vigorously for fifteen to twenty seconds.

The Spleen Thump

BACKGROUND: Your Spleen meridian governs metabolism and blood flow, and it also supports immune functioning. It supports the body’s ability to metabolize energies, substances, and even thoughts.

  • Suffer from a blood chemistry imbalance (e.g., hypoglycemia or diabetes)

INSTRUCTIONS: The last acupuncture points on Spleen meridian are located on the side of the ribcage at the base of the ribs. To do the Spleen Thump, tap these points vigorously for about fifteen seconds.

BACKGROUND: The “hook up” is a deceptively simple yet deeply important energy intervention. It involves creating a connection between the Central and Governing meridians. Central meridian travels from your pubic bone, up the center of your body, and ends deep in your throat at the level of your bottom lip. Governing meridian travels from your tailbone up your spine, and over your head, ending at the back of your throat in line with your top lip.  

These two energy streams act as an “energetic spine”, connecting mind and body, maintaining the body’s deep habits. The “hook up” strengthens this “energetic spine” and creates a strong energy field around the body to help you feel whole and connected.

INSTRUCTIONS: Place the middle finger of one hand on the “third eye” (between the eyebrows above the bridge of the nose) and the middle finger of the other hand in the navel. Gently press each finger into the skin and pull it upwards. Hold for 15 to 30 seconds.
